Stafford Fishery, Carp, Match & Pleasure Waters
Glovers is Baden Hall Fishery’s newest specimen lake, opened to anglers in May 2015, this 6-acre gem is already home to impressive fish, including specimens exceeding 40lb, with the current lake record standing at 45.8lb. With only eight pegs spaced along one bank, Glovers provides anglers with an unparalleled sense of space and exclusivity, ensuring minimal interference from neighbouring swims.
The layout allows you to cast to the far margins or fish close to your near bank without disrupting the natural tranquillity - or your fellow anglers’ setups. Each swim is equipped with a supplied unhooking mat, landing net, weigh sling, and water bucket, all aimed at preserving the health of the fish stock by eliminating the risk of disease transmission from outside equipment.
Like The Quarry and Bridge Pool, Glovers Lake was once a sand and gravel quarry, featuring crystal-clear waters, abundant natural food, and thriving wildlife. Its gin-clear visibility adds a layer of excitement to every session, allowing you to observe the fish’s behaviour in real time—a truly unique experience. Since opening, the lake’s carp have exhibited rapid growth rates, and with a healthy population of twenties and thirties (up to 35lb+), more new thirty-pounders and record-breaking fish are expected in the near future.
Our peg draw takes place at 10:30 a.m. on your arrival day, adding an element of anticipation and fairness to your fishing session. With each peg offering unique underwater features and challenges, consider your choice carefully once allocated. Planning your swim strategy around known lake features, as well as any patterns you've observed, can give you an edge from the moment you cast in.
Glovers Lake boasts a thriving population of stunning carp, including pristine commons and mirrors. The current lake record of 45.8lb showcases its potential for serious specimen anglers, with plenty of twenties and thirties providing exciting runs. One of the unique thrills of Glovers is the chance to catch a fish that has never been landed before, a testament to the lake’s largely untapped potential.
Glovers rewards stealth and patience. Minimizing noise and disturbance around your peg can greatly increase your chances, especially as fish are often caught close in when following a warm wind. For far-margins fishing, aim to bait up subtly and accurately along the opposite bank. Use a bait boat for pinpoint precision if needed, but keep activity to a minimum to maintain the element of surprise.
With the lake’s exceptional water clarity, surface fishing becomes a must-try technique from spring onwards. Using polarized glasses can make a significant difference, helping you locate clear areas along the far margin or spot cruising carp in the upper layers. Dawn and dusk are peak times for activity, so plan your approach around these productive windows.
Glovers carp respond well to a variety of baits, with several proven options delivering consistent success:
Experimentation is key. Starting with trusted baits and adjusting based on conditions and fish behaviour can yield excellent results.
